Controlling Neighborhood Young Adults

How do you go about setting up a program that allows for young adults to participate in the neighborhoods, but keeps them from causing problems? In our neighborhood we have multiple issues with graffiti, entry into restricted areas, riding atv's on the public roads and common areas, etc.

It's not the riding of ATVs that's the issue, it's how and where they are ridden.

Anyway, you have to figure out what said young adults are interested in. Try and get them together, talk to them, see what motivates them and base community activities off of that interest.

If you live close and/or know a particular kid, sure, dinner might in the form of an informal BBQ probably isn't a bad idea at all. Maybe some movies and games would add to it as well; little community events/tournaments in fishing, sports, or something of that nature may be viable as well.

Michelle has the right idea. Adults must home in on their interests and work from there. I've found that a neighborhood project is a good social-building tool.Years ago, I bought a few park benches from Kohls for the neighborhood and had most of the teenagers over to help put them together after playing basketball. Oh yeah, you have to feed them to close the deal. Basketball has always been the lure I use to meet, greet, and teach young men in my community.Ofcourse it helps that I still play and coach. True coaches teach more than sports but, becoming a lifelong productive member of society.

Good for you, then go do it at a location where it is legal before you end up with a fine and a record.
